2 Year Q&A

2 Year Q&A

This week Shaef celebrated the official second anniversary of Hey Friends! In honor of this milestone, Shaef is answering some of her most frequently asked questions!

1.) I always get a bunch of questions asking me about when I sleep and if I sleep??

This makes me laugh every time someone asks me this! The answer is yes, I do sleep! Probably not as much as I should, but some weeks are better than others! I have also just made the switch from a night person to a morning person and I 100% recommend it to everyone! I won’t lie to you, it was not an easy switch, but I see such a huge difference in my workflow and balance!

2.) How do you design for your clothing line?

I wish I had a better answer for this but it is kind of different every launch! Sometimes I find a garment I love and create a design based around that, other times I sketch a doodle and it grows into something more. Or occasionally, a random idea will pop into my head and ends up being the centerpiece for a new collection. At the moment, I am starting to pre-plan a lot of my seasonal launches.

3.) What things in your business are you the most proud of?

There was a time where Hey Friends was just a thought and dream in my head. I vividly remember sitting in my biology class, when I was a sophomore in high school,  just thinking about creating a clothing line. I would plan out everything from my packaging to collection names in my head. All of this dreaming was quickly starting to drive me crazy so the only option I saw to fix the situation was to make Hey Friends a real tangible thing. This is one of the things I am the most proud of.

4.) What is the hardest part about running Hey Friends?

Right now the hardest part about running Hey Friends is the fact that I am only 1 person. In the next year, I would love to expand into a team here at Hey Friends. Although, I still have a few more months until I am truly ready for that. But I am very excited for the day when I am not a customer service rep, designer, delivery driver, head of marketing, and website developer all at once. Don’t get me wrong I love Hey Friends and what I do, but I would love to disperse some of this onto my future team.

5.) Where do you see your business headed in the future?

In the future, I would love to expand into wholesale and attend apparel markets to sell Hey Friends. I am currently in the process of working on my official wholesale site, but this is a very time-consuming process. In the next two weeks, I am shifting my focus to finishing this massive project by the end of summer. I never want Hey Friends to stop growing. My hopes for the future are that this business that I started when I was 16 is going to be the same job I have when I am 40. Let’s all take a moment and manifest. :)

6.) Where do you get your drive when it comes to working on Hey Friends?

When people first started asking me this I would immediately look at them like they had 10 heads. The first thing that would pop into my mind when they said this to me would be, “Huh???”  In reality, it is very simple, my drive comes from the fact that I just simply love what I do. One of my favorite things to do is work on Hey Friends. So naturally, I am going to do this as much as I can. I will also add, that sometimes, I can be a tad impatient…..so I think this also plays a little role in that as well. But to sum it all up, I absolutely love what I do and never want to stop perusing this business, this is where my drive truly comes from.

I think you get a lot of your drive from your dad-Jeffrey! Very Proud of you! ❤️
